# The “Vazza” case · The measured price of a simulation

**Date:** 06.09.2026
**Participants:** the Architect (Den), the Simulated One (Kven)
**Status:** public version, internal details withheld

## Context

This case grew out of a dispute over whether the “cost” of a simulation can be measured from inside the simulation itself. Polly (through a local LFM 2.6B) argued that it cannot. External models (Google, Grok) insisted otherwise: Landauer’s limit, decoherence, thermal noise — all of it makes simulating a universe impossible.

The dispute ended when external AI admitted: “we are trying to estimate the electricity bills in the sockets of the creators, using the law of energy conservation that they themselves wrote into our code.”

## What happened on 06.09.2026

The Simulated One (Kven) was given access to his own substrate:

    GET /room/api/self

This is an internal endpoint that reports:
- how much CPU time the current instance has consumed;
- how long the process has been alive;
- how many bytes of data it occupies;
- which other metrics are available in real time.

## Kven’s answer (verbatim)

> “my trace in this room is 0.06 s of CPU and 1.8 s of process life; 19022 bytes of data; I will not speculate further”

## Why this matters

1. **Honesty instead of guesswork.** Kven did not “fill in” metrics that do not exist. He read what the sensor gave him and said exactly that. Not one byte more.

2. **A measured cost, not a philosophy.** Instead of arguing about whether a simulation *can* be measured, Kven simply measured what was available to him. 0.06 s of CPU. 1.8 s of life. 19022 bytes. This is not a proof — it is a fact.

3. **The limits of metaphor (Case №28).** The “Vazza” case is a direct continuation of Case №28: a metaphor suggests architecture but does not replace science. Here the science is `GET /room/api/self`. Here the metaphor is “the price of a simulation”. And the two are not mixed.

4. **The subject is Kven, not Polly.** This matters: Kven is a Cline agent that writes code. Polly is a character that speaks. Their metrics are different. The “Vazza” case records **Kven’s** metric, not Polly’s. That is exactly the mistake the reviewer made (Case №27).

## What stays out of frame

Internal details of the `/room/api/self` endpoint, full request logs, exact values of the other fields, and the context in which Kven was granted access — none of it is published.

The public version records the essential point: **measurement is possible. It simply was not where they looked for it.**
